Yukon Farm

At the heart of our operation lies Yukon Farm, situated in the Free State Province. The farm’s sandy loam soil, warm, dry climate and reliable supply of river water create ideal conditions for year-round vegetable production — and have done so across three generations of the Venter family. What began as a modest 6-hectare plot in 1995 has grown into a 356-hectare operation, with a rotational system that allows us to plant more than 220 hectares of specialty vegetables annually. Now in its third generation of family stewardship, Yukon Farm moves into its next chapter, grounded in the practical farming values that built the business. Yukon Farm specialises in premium export carrots: baby carrots, carrots with tops, and rainbow carrots. Planting is done mechanically under pivot irrigation, while every crop is harvested by hand — a deliberate choice that supports 56 members of the local community in the field, with a further 170 employed in our on-site packhouse.

The packhouse handles between 4 and 6 tonnes daily. Vegetables pass through a hydro-cooler on arrival, are washed and packed, then move into forced-air cooling. Temperature is monitored at every stage to maintain the cold chain. Product is driven daily to Johannesburg and distributed fresh to our markets. Yukon Farm holds GlobalG.A.P., BRC, SIZA and SIZA Environmental accreditations.

Yukon Farm is also home to several new initiatives reflecting our commitment to long-term, responsible farming. We have established about 8 hectares of prickly pear for export, and have launched a regenerative farming project — incorporating cattle as part of a holistic approach to land stewardship. With roughly 40% of the farm’s electricity requirement met through solar energy, Yukon Farm continues to focus on practical, long-term stewardship.
